To imagine STEAM and direct her filming, Lyn traveled to the remote Jingmai Mountains and their ancient plantation forests in southwest China, a place where time seems to slow down and nature reveals itself in silent, unspoken ways. Home to nine ancient villages, surrounded by a mysterious sea of clouds rising from the valley, this historic UNESCO World Heritage Site has been cultivated for over a thousand years, following traditions dating back to the 10th century. Each morning, Lyn awoke to find herself immersed in a steam that nourished her soul and illuminated her senses: a mist that, a local monk told her, had such unique cleansing properties that legendary visitors would try to trap it in jars and take it home. It was there, watching the mist wind its way across the ancient landscape, that she found her moment of clarity. Back in London, the steam rising from her morning cup in her Marylebone laboratory, where all her fragrances are first created and developed, and the memory of Jingmai's cleansing mists came together for Lyn in a singular promise of renewal: STEAM.
